Philosophy

At the heart of my teaching philosophy, I am a behaviorist!  I use the tools of behaviorism everyday in my classroom, in classroom management, and in motivating my students in the learning process.  I believe that creating the proper class room environment to facilitate learning is a crucial first step to teaching, even before the first topic is introduced.  Keeping individual students motivated is an ongoing challenge and can be facilitated by using applied behavioral analysis based on each student’s unique circumstances.  I am a believer in using response to intervention techniques in helping each student achieve his or her highest potential.
I also consider myself to be an idealist.  I believe in reaching for the ideal or perfection within my own teaching abilities.  I strive to do this by spending time reflecting on my lessons and critiquing myself on an ongoing basis.
No matter what your teaching style may be, the key is to focus on the child.  You must teach in the manner that is best for the child.  When you put the child first you can’t help but be successful.
