So-o-o-o-o-o-o-o many choices! I just can't remember....
Many people do not remember which word of the phrase, "et al." receives the period, probably because they do not understand what the phrase means. Think of "al" as the name of a person or a person that represents many people, and as such is deserving of the respect of a period.
