Although I am currently a pre-service teacher, I have listed my expectations of my performance and objectives I would like to fulfill which are both elements of my philosophy of education.

As a teacher I will…

  • Ensure the quality of education my students are receiving by consistently assessing their demonstration of knowledge in the forms of class work, homework, and quizzes/tests.

  • Ensure that students retain knowledge throughout the year by creating projects that build upon past lessons and require students to demonstrate this.

  • Teach my students the truths and facts as demanded by the curriculum.  However, I will also educate them on topics where no concrete answer is available.  I will encourage and provoke my students to question and critique viewpoints in a manner which will create group discussion and embellish their creativity.

  • Build a relationship with each child using a holistic approach.  I will work to observe and understand not only their performance and behavior in the classroom, but also take care to appreciate and recognize the individuality of each student in regards to other areas of their life.

  • Instill discipline and order in my class.  However, I will not dictate more than I need to in order to persuade students to think for themselves and find their voice of reason.

  • Keep afresh with new information and techniques that can be applied to my classroom as concerns teaching methods and instructional guides.

  • Be active with parents and extend the lines of communication with them immediately and efficiently.
Act as part of a team in every setting I come into contact with including the classroom, grade level, school, and community.

  • Be proactive and cautious when observing students with difficulties in the classroom.  I will seek additional help from support staff where needed.
